Cat Lover's Hop

Yipee! The cat lover's hop is open over at Janis' Her Peaceful Garden. It's going to run all this week so there will be lots of kitty themed items to oogle and purr over.

I had this card ready to share on my blog earlier but decided to pull it and wait for this week. It starts off with a gatefold card with a sweet kitty in a pot of flowers. I tried to make the card look delicate and feminine.
Once you open it up you discover that it's a feat of engineering inside as sliding tabs open to reveal the greeting. This style of card is called a variety of things from magic window card, shutter card, gatefold shutter card, to peek a boo card.
Here are a couple of tutorials I used to learn how to make this card: JanB's Shutter Card and Terri's Magic Window Card so you too can make one (engineering degree not required).

I hope you can come join us at the Cat Lover's Hop! If you can't join I hope you can at least stop by to visit all the cats and kittens.

Well this is a cool style of card, Judy! I've never seen anything like this before and it must be fun to open this up and get the surprise! It's very impressive! I like the name peek-a-boo card as I think the other names aren't quite as cute hehe. I love this little cat in the pot and I still haven't used mine - it's on my pile of cutie-pies to be coloured.

Oh you clever little sausage PJ - I adore this card! Dare I tackle one I wonder?

More on the plaid lecture: plaid in the UK is actually a piece of tartan cloth worn over the shoulder by Scottish folk. There is no right or wrong - it seems that tartan has been transcribed into plaid in North America and that's just fine.

BTW - the Scottish clans were fearsome fighters for territory amongst themselves - let alone keeping the English out! Most clans have two tartans, the 'dress' one which is brighter/more vibrant and the 'everyday' one which is much more muted and almost drab - so it blends in with Scottish heather, gorse and such. Bit like camouflage!

Years ago I had an ankle length tartan kilt for special occasions (I lived in Northumberland and we were used to keeping wild Scots at bay and yet we also subscribed to a lot of Scottish traditions). The colours of the tartan were varied shades of browns and beiges - and it was actually very beautiful, yet it was an 'everyday' tartan - or plaid. Looked amazing with a cream long sleeved pie-crust collar blouse. I know, I know - very Princess Diana! Sigh.

Oh, and before you ask, I don't know what a true Scot wears under his kilt - but I suspect it really is 'nuffin'! Eeeeeeuuuw :(

Hugs

Di xx

What an impressive card fold and an adorable design! My experience with fancy folds has not been a pretty one, as my cards never turn out the way they're supposed to. My specialty is ending up with the focal image on the wrong side of the card...ha! However, you have obviously done a beautiful job!

I humbly bow in the presence of an amazing cardmaker!!!! WOW WOW WOW! This card is just awesome. I LOVE the pretty floral print with the sweet kitty in the flowerpot. The panels of the gatefold style with the print give it almost an Asian screen look. Then the surprise feat of engineering inside is just breath-taking! I KNOW I am not up to this sort of intricate cardmaking, so I will stick to fancy backgrounds and be your cheering section! (Applause!!)

Thanks so much for participating in my 2016 Cat Lovers Hop!!!
