Happy Halloween

Happy day to everyone!  May your day be filled with treats and not with tricks. Today wraps up this month, with tomorrow ringing in a new one.  I wonder what November will bring?  I hope my life won’t be consumed with making holiday cards, but I suspect it will be.  I have to put a better effort into actually getting cards out into the mail.  That will be my new month resolution!  Maybe I should add "write more entertaining blog posts" to the list too!  Whatcha think?

Thinking of You

No, really I have been thinking of you, but that is about all I've been doing--thinking.  Not much action in these parts these days.  I slaughtered some defenseless squashes though.  That's something.

One Layer Challenge -OLW70

Okay, I'm doing it.  I am actually joining one of the One Layer challenges out there.  This one is One Layer Wednesday (yeah, so it isn't Wednesday, get over your bad self) off my favorite blog, Simplicity.  I admire the cards in her blog all the time, but they are so not me.  And ONE LAYER?!  NO patterned paper???!  I get twitchy just thinking of it!  No multiple layers?!?!  I must be mad.

The challenge for OLW70 was to use either red and cream or red and white on a one-layer card.  Here is my entry in cream and red:
It feels naked to me, even though I faked a layer by having one stripe look like it is underneath another.  There was extensive use of the positioning tool for this card. Please comment and tell me what you think of my venture into the land of one-layer.

Since I'm sure I'll be asked, the stripes are created using an old Stampin Up set I bought used.  There are four different stamps, three of which are used on this card.  I like this set more than some of the other stripe and/or ribbon sets I've seen out there because the images are over 5-1/2" long so you can stamp across the front of an A2 card in one shot, no need to line up a repeat image.

Halloween Tri-Shutter Card

I didn’t create any cards last night to show off today.  Last night I paged through many crafting magazines and admired other people’s work.  Now there are so many more things I want to do that I am going to have to clone myself to make it happen.  Also last night someone showed me their version of this fun multi-folded card, so I thought I would share my version.  We were both inspired by receiving a similar card from a mutual friend last year.

I’m sure this fold has an official name, but darned if I know what it is.  I can say that the base card is 5-1/2” by 12” and it folds flat to fit into an A2 envelope.  I already mailed it off to some lucky recipient, so I can’t show you what it looks like closed.  Maybe someday I’ll make another one to share.  Yeah, don’t hold your breath….

According to Splitcoast   this is called a Tri-Shutter Card. There is even a tutorial to show you how to make one of your very own.  I know a good paper cutter and scoring tool is the secret to this card.  Their tutorial says to make the slits with a ruler and an X-acto knife.  I, of course, recommend the slide rule style paper cutter.  There is less change of stitches that way.

Pink and Brown Challenge

I made this card for the pink and brown challenge for the A Muse Studio Challenge Blog.  They do a different challenge every week.  This week’s challenge was to be inspired by A Muse’s yummy pink and brown colors: French Roast and Bubblegum.  Pink and brown are just such fun colors together.

The Challenge Blog does not require that we use a|s products, which means that you too could play along.  I knew right away that I wanted to use the Rock Star set for this card because who doesn’t want to rock with a hot pink guitar?* And of course, I get twitchy if I don’t get to include patterned paper, so I found some fab pink, brown and glittery paper that just rocked and the card came together.  For some reason I never got around to putting any French Roast brown on this card but it worked out anyway.
* Note that was rhetorical question, I don’t need you to tell me that Eddie Van Halen, Tony Iommi, Dave Mustaine, Ace Frenhley, KK Downing, Pete Townshend, Rudolf Schenker, Ted Nugent, Mick Mars, Slash, James Hetfield, Nigel Tufnel, etc. are too manly to rock the pink. And you know what?  I’ll bet they’d do it.  Totally.  In yer face!

Happy Hallow-Scream

I made a wedding card last night but didn’t think to take its picture.  You’ll just have to take me at my word that I didn’t make any holiday cards.  I do have another one to share though.  I thought I’d break out with this sweet little witch.  At the time I made this card I was trying to use up some scraps of Halloween ribbon I had lying around.  None of them looked right so I used this length of baker’s twine that I had.  Baker’s twine is pretty popular these days and it comes in lots of different colors, usually something and white.  My friend has some black, orange and white.  Ooh!  That’s too cool.  I have just orange and white:
